Frequently Asked Questions

Sookasa is the safest place in the cloud. We work from within your Dropbox or Google folder to make it as easy as possible for you to work in a secure, compliant way. Our application transparently encrypts each file you place in the Sookasa folder to protect it. We preserve Dropbox and Google Drive’s storing, syncing, and sharing features—but enhance them with extra security. We’ve also added some sending and receiving features of our own, which enable users to securely send or receive encrypted files from non-users.

Sookasa works with Dropbox and Google Drive. We’re official partners with Dropbox—you can learn more about our partnership here and here.

You’ll need a Dropbox or Google Drive account, and you’ll want Dropbox or Google Drive’s application installed on any device on which you want to work with encrypted files. You’ll need to install Sookasa, too, to properly work with your encrypted files.

Sookasa encrypts your files on your device. To do that, we intercept them before they are synced to the cloud, so they are never exposed to the sometimes perilous world wide web.

Once you install the app, Sookasa creates a Sookasa folder inside your Dropbox folder. Anything you put inside is encrypted and protected using patented encryption technology.

This is part of the magic of Sookasa. We make your encrypted files as easy to work with as possible. If you log out of Sookasa and take another peek, though, you’ll notice your files all have something new: Sookasa extensions. This shows that files are actually encrypted and secure, and lets your computer know to call Sookasa to decrypt them when you need to work.

Sookasa uses powerful bank-level 256-bit AES encryption for all files and keys. We have been audited and tested by a third party to guarantee the highest standards of security and certify our compliance with HIPAA and FERPA regulations.

Sookasa works with all Dropbox plans: Dropbox Basic, Dropbox Pro, and Dropbox for Business.

Sookasa works with all Google Drive and Google Apps plans.

It’s free if you’re using it for personal use. If you need to be compliant, Sookasa costs $10 per user per month, or $100 per year.

Yes! Sharing folders on Dropbox works exactly the same way. You can share sub-folders within Sookasa, too, but everyone on a Sookasa shared sub-folder will need a Sookasa account so they’re able to decrypt the folder’s sensitive contents.
